BUS 445 Import and Export (3 credits / 6 ECTS, Elective, Fall 2026-2027). Lecturer: Dr. Samaneh Mohammadi.

This course introduces the practice of international trade from the perspective of a small import/export business. Students examine why nations trade, the key players and government agencies involved, and how trade agreements, tariffs and sanctions shape market access. The course follows a shipment through the daily operations of exporters and importers, including documentation, payment methods, Incoterms, customs entry, classification and valuation. It also covers market research, pricing, financing, insurance, contracts, marketing and distribution, and the control of credit, currency and tax risks.

Sustainability is built into the course: students consider how trade can support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, how carbon-border measures, ethical sourcing and responsible supply chains are reshaping market access, and how small traders can adopt greener logistics.
