This course is designed to provide the students with an overview of the history of contemporary art. In order to help students understand the history of art as part of a broader social and cultural panorama, the course will look at artworks, the social contexts in which they are produced and presented, and the different theoretical models through which they have been interpreted. Students are expected to be active participants in the discussions that take place in class. Classes will be based on the readings, power-point presentations, and student presentations.
